Governor Charles Wesley Turnbull

The territory mourns the passing of former Governor Charles Wesley Turnbull, 87, who died July 3, 2022, in Washington, DC.

He is survived by his sisters, Mavis Turnbull Murrain Richards and Doris Turnbull Wells; brothers, Vernald Turnbull; brother-in-law Clarence R. Wells; step brother, Cecil Forbes; nieces, Barbara Clay, Brittany Clay, Bria Clay, Brianna Turner, Cherisse Wells, Dr. Monique Cypress, Arianna Cypress, Lumisha Turnbull, Janis Forbes and Vitalia Forbes; nephews, Antoine Turnbull, Avery Turnbull, Aaron Turnbull, Darrell Cypress, Ethan Cypress, Colin Cypress, Garrett Cypress, Donald Clay, Jamal R. Wells, Paul Turner and Vernon Forbes, Donald Turnbull Jr. and Charles Francis; special cousins, Icena Turnbull Carty, Juel T.R. Molloy, Bernice A. Turnbull, Winston Turnbull, Lorna Turnbull Jackson, Marilyn Turnbull David, Angel Turnbull, Mario Turnbull, Sheldon Turnbull, Raymond Turnbull, Adolphus Turnbull, Thomas Turnbull, Illina Turnbull, George Turnbull, Adorothy Turnbull, Louis Turnbull and Atama Turnbull.

Governor Turnbull will lie in state on:

St. Croix - August 10, 2022 at Government House, 1105 King Street, Christiansted, St. Croix, 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

St. John - August 11, 2022 at The Battery, Cruz Bay, St. John, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

St. Thomas - August 12, 2022 at Government House, 21-22 Kongens Gade, St. Thomas from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Parking will be at Fort Christian Parking Lot. Shuttle service will be available to and from Government House.

St. Thomas - August 12, 2022 - A Candlelight Vigil will take place at Emancipation Garden from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Parking will be at Fort Christian Parking Lot. Shuttle service will be available to and from Government House.

St. Thomas - August 13, 2022 at Christchurch Methodist Church, with a viewing from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. and service to follow at 10:00 a.m.

Interment will be at Eastern Cemetery, Smith Bay. A repast will take place at Fort Christian immediately following the interment. 

All protocols  relative to COVID-19 will be followed and the attendees are asked to wear masks.
