Ira Denfield Smith

The family of Mr. Ira Denfield Smith, affectionately known as “Biko Man,” is truly saddened and heartbroken as they announce his passing in Florida on March 14, 2022, at the age of 70.

He was an employee at the Education Department for 30 years, an avid sports supporter and a bird fighting enthusiast. Ira was well known and respected in the bird fighting community for his diligence and enthusiasm when dealing with the game birds. He was a loving, caring and generous family man.

Ira was preceded in death by his parents, Winifred Graham and Alfredo Denfield Smith; his grandmother, Winnie; and aunts, Elesna and Constancia.

He has left many to mourn his loss, daughters, Ericka King, Kishma, Sadè and Kira Smith; sons, Kaya, Keon and Kennel; stepdaughters, Latifah Pratt-Whyte, Lalique Pratt, Lakwanza Pratt and Kyra Kean-Payne; godson, Kahmani Rhymer; son-in-laws, Comer King, Jerome Whyte Sr. and Shaggy Payne; grandchildren, Eric Stephen Sr., Davrell Stephens, Bryan Todman, Kema Barkley, Kaden Bulgin, Ka’Shyra Smith, BaShyra Smith, Kashi Smith, Keal Smith, Leila Smith, Z’Aisha Wattley, Jhonae Moses, Jhonique Moses and John Moses.

He also left to mourn his loss his step-grandchildren, Jay-J Whyte, Jaelah Whyte, Kyan Matthew, Zion Matthew, Ajahni Aska, Jabari Aska, Jahkim Payne and Jahsiah Payne; greatgrandchildren, Tahkeria Gibson, Eric Stephen’s Jr., Elijah Stephens, Tyana Stephens, Enzo Stephens, Ezra Stephens and K’Nique Smith; sister, Reneé Richard; brother, Everette Smith; cousin, Darlene Edwards; nieces and nephews, Diana Scatliffe, Obadiah Smith and Isaiah Austin Le’nisha Percel; nieces, Kylie scattlife, Lenore Gibson; sister-in-law,

He also leaves to morn his special friends, Juliet Thomas, Myalyn Gibson, Esther Taylor, Velma Samuel and Gwendolyn James; ex-wife, Jasmine Simeon; extended family and friends, Bathsheba Prince, Keishell, Keya, Jerome, Shaggy, Jean Wiltshire, Jackie Simeon, Sonia Francis, Kareem (Pogo) Thompson, Kareema Thompson, Winston Benjamin, Skinny, Rumpus, Millard Rogers, Jose Lima, Karen Kline, Marcus Blackman, Murad Muhammad, Jn’ Baptiste family, Emporium Coliseum and staff, other friends too numerous to mention.

The first viewing will be at Turnbull’s Funeral from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Friday, April 15, 2022. The second viewing will take place at Blyden Memorial Chapel, across from Western Cemetery No. 2 at 173 Estate Altona, Welgunst, St. Thomas, on Saturday, April 16, 2022 from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. with the service immediately following. Relatives and friends are invited to attend.

Interment is at Eastern Cemetery, Smith Bay.
